Details
Glasgow School of Art has an exciting opportunity to shape a growing and unique international Masters programme exploring the future of human-centred interaction design.

Our beautiful campus in the Highlands of Scotland allows postgraduate students to engage in a socially-conscious exploration of interaction design working with communities and industries within the region and far beyond. As the specialism leader on our MDes in Design Innovation and Interaction Design you will be aware of contemporary approaches to the delivery of teaching and learning in this expanding area of our curriculum. You will also be keen to participate in assessment, course and curriculum development, and related administration. You will be qualified to Masters level or beyond, or possess equivalent professional or industrial experience. Preferably having prior experience of teaching within higher education, you should be able to deliver appropriate teaching and learning at both Undergraduate and Postgraduate (PGT) level. Ideally you will be a maker, bringing knowledge of coding (e.g. Processing, vvvv) and prototyping (Arduino, Raspberry Pi, 3D printing), with an ability to embrace emerging practices. A commitment to Interaction Design as a human-centred practice that acknowledges the power of technology to shape human experience and enhance the lived environment is essential. The role will primarily focus upon teaching approaches to design innovation and interaction with Masters level students, with some involvement with the undergraduate exploration of “connected products”. You will also contribute to other Masters courses in Design Innovation and offer support to students in other specialisms.

You will have an awareness of the current trends and future developments in interaction design and innovation, as areas of creative practice and intellectual exploration. Engagement with a network of practitioners and/or researchers, and an international focus would also be advantageous. You will be encouraged to maintain your academic and/or professional credibility in the role, which is also available part-time. As a member of a close team of teachers, researchers and support staff you will have the opportunity to develop the course and create opportunities for collaborations at home and abroad. The campus is based on a private estate surrounded by some of the UK’s most beautiful scenery with opportunities for outdoor activities including sailing, climbing and walking. Inverness airport provides convenient links to London and international destinations, while excellent rail links exist to the rest of Scotland and the UK.
