The
Learning Support and Development Service is increasing its pool of people to
support students with disabilities at The Glasgow School of Art.
The
post-holder will work closely, within clear professional boundaries, with
individual students on a programme of work as agreed with the student and the Disability
Support Adviser. Key areas of responsibility include providing practical
assistance such as lifting and carrying materials, operating specialist
equipment and installing studio work under the student’s direction.
Manual Note Taker duties involve accompanying
individual students to lectures/tutorials/critiques etc and providing the
student with legible, comprehensive notes.
Educated
to degree level or equivalent, the successful candidate will have good
listening and communication skills, a positive attitude and experience of
supporting/working with adults. You will
also have recent experience in the safe operation of equipment in a Fine Art or
Design context, within one or more of the following: 3D Making (wood, metal,
modelling, casting, silversmithing and jewellery), Textiles (weave, dye, knit,
printing), Photography and Print (lithography, etching, silkscreen printing).
Hours
of work are flexible during term time and negotiated individually for each
student. The successful candidate will undergo Disability Awareness training
and a Health and Safety induction in the relevant workshops.
